I believe this all started with CNSnews.
They had an article with 'professionals' talking about the perversions in the game and the atrocious nature of the developers for marketing it to minors. The article was complete bull overflowing with total ignorance and hatred.
Then a townhall columnist decided to take it one step further. His column was removed by townhall themselves as it was far more inflammatory and bogus than the CNSnews article.
Fox News just gullibly ate up those lies and are continuing the ignorant rants.

This is why SO many people are upset. It is ridiculous how these right wing conservatives are outright lying about the game and they are doing it with smiles on their faces under the delusion that their sources are accurate. They are literally taking .05% of the game's content, taking it completely out of context and making wild assumptions about it's reason for being there.
They cannot possibly understand that the video gaming medium is capable of storytelling at a film medium level. They are under the false impression that mature content in a video game is equivalent to XXX content in movies.
The love scene that may happen near the end of the game is neither graphic nor corrupting in nature. You'll see love scenes in PG-13 movies of a more 'blue' nature. I'm being punny there. There is no other love scene besides the one that happens near the end. It happens because it makes sense in the context of the 20+ hour story. 2 people develop feelings for each other and share their last moments with each other before marching off to what could be their deaths.

That publisher who is willing to spend immense amounts of money to see themselves win.

Microsoft Corporation.

I have very little respect for both of these companies, but in this case, I would have to side with EA. Their handling of the situation was incredible, kudos to them. Fox News got completely and utterly pwned.

And, I thought I'd add, where I come from, Mass Effect was actually banned for a while before being released under an M18 rating. This is one of the few times a game has been given an M18 rating here.

If Mass Effect was banned I bet that owning a copy of Manhunt 2 would be punishable by death.

Probably :P

I don't know for sure, but it was probably banned.

Back on topic, someone mentioned EA could possibly sue Fox News. If they can, why don't they?

Well, Mass Effect is a great game with a really deep and engaging storyline. The sex scene is very well done too, it's actually quite elegant and nice. I think EA can sue Fox, and they should.

They are first asking for a public apology. (In short, it's a staring contest of whether Fox will back down and give the apology or whether they'll make a mistake and choose to fight a court battle.) Most of us are hoping they'll refuse and that EA will deal with them in court.

I would normally expect something better for reporting on Fox they used to have higher standards. However I can agree with most posters here that it was poor reporting at best. Usually I find them [FOX] fair and balanced compared to the main stream of media outlets CNN NBC CBS ABC CW and others but not of late.

They seem to have fallen into the drive by media mentality that dominates the mainstream media outlets. I would hope that the community would continue to respond is such a way to persuade not only FOX but other media outlets to stop fabricating news stories for the sake of ratings.

Good Job to those who destroyed Cooper Lawrence work and book on Amazon. She reaped what she sowed and got what she deserved.

As for "anonymous" you see that mentality in online communities all the time. It's not a "gang" as much as a way of life for some in the online community and its unfortunate for victims who did not deserve some of the treatment they got. Just play GW long enough and you can clearly see the mentality.

Lets face it a$$holes are a$$holes [be it "anonymous" or the "drive by media"] best way to avoid trouble online is to be anonymous and remain so no matter what. However as someone who used to work e-mail security in the field of e-commerce support centers many of these anonymous "politics of personal destruction" problem's arise from a lack of personal accountability at the hiring stage in data support centers. I am speaking of companies hiring unethical people to run your data center who have access to personal information ABOUT YOU. For example Cell Phone data support centers. Its scary how much personal information can be gained through the major cell phone companies.

BUT that can be a topic of a different discussion.

What about the female ranger... bumps and grinds. I always expect to see my ranger throwing off pieces of clothing when she dances.

You know I have to say... I'm a bleeding heart liberal, and I'm also not blind... so I have to admit Quickmonty is correct about NPR commentary... or any information coming from any US print or broadcast news provider... there is no such thing as unbiased journalism in the US. It is all bought and paid for. However, Fox IS notorious for being extremely biased.

Yea comon one nipple isn't really going to mark a kid forever, plus its a mature rating, parents with a huge problem with that can just not get their kids the game..

I mean its difficult to tell whats too much skin anymore, you go to beaches and see teenage girls in bikinis... You see girls taking topless shots covering their boobs with only their hands, sometimes its even considered "art"...heck i walk past topless statues all the time, you don't see people calling that porn.

Fox is just looking for the next "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" Coffee Pot incident to make them look good.

Yes and I'm a bleeding Heart Right Wing Flag Holding Conservative and even I know that FOX is not what they used to be. It's all drive by reporting in the news be it FOX or CNN it seems. I am very disappointed in FOX for the shabby reporting. However this is not about right or left wing bias media outlets its about bad media reporting practices in General.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive_by_media

But thats not to say that Left Wing and Right Wing fanatics can't get along and enjoy or discuss the Great game of Guild Wars together.

Thats what makes this Guru community so fantastic, once we can put political ideology aside we can have room for great discussions and not make it personal.

* If she does have as much "research" as she does for her tv spots you can expect a book full of complete lies at best. Take everything she writes with a huge grain of salt or better yet save your money.
* Trying to encourage sexual acts in a book made available to young children is unacceptable.
* There's a new study out of the University of Maryland that says this book sucks.
* This author does little research yet since she's a psychologist everything she says is taken as researched fact. Don't blindly trust her.
* Steer clear of this pointless book and save your money, get Mass Effect instead.
* This book is filled with adult-oriented pictures and stories, yet it is apparently available and marketed towards children. I find this unacceptable. You will never see this book in my house.
* Sorry darling, I gotta go with the research here, and the research shows - there's a new study off the Internet today that says that middle-aged, attention-craving women writing generic, run-of-the-mill, rehashed self-help books should not be listened to when they offer their opinions about matters they themselves admit they have never engaged or even done any research in.
Some of the funny reviews of Cooper's book on Amazon.

And here are the tags for her book:

My favorite one is "alien-side-cleavage-is-the-death-of-america"

Gotta give her kudos about admitting her mistake though, pretty admirable.
